ShrinkLink is a URL (web link) shortening service.
It can take a long (or reeeally long) web link, such as this ..
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=restaurants+in+Paris &jsv=130d&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=11.093698,28.300781&ie=UTF8 &latlng=48873350,2300277,10131054141350714504&ei=Ji3mSMCFI4y0ogOitLjgBg &sig2=rjDISqgPI_m2ZFtQujfFuA&cd=5
and shorten it to something much more manageable, such as this ..
This is then much easier to copy and paste and send around the web to friends and colleagues.
(which one of the above 2 links would you rather explain over the phone, txt to a friend, or see in an email message .. ?!)
You can also create custom / personalised Friendly Names for your shrunken links. The example above could be written something like this ..
www.shrinklink.co.uk/best-restaurant-in-Paris
With a little imagination, the possibilities are almost limitless …
www.shrinklink.co.uk/my-latest-blog-article
www.shrinklink.co.uk/youtube-funny-clips
Now, is that cool or what ?
It really is simple .. !
Say you have found a really long web site link that you want to pass on ? This might be a location of a restaurant on google maps, a review of a product on a shopping site, an item on eBay, etc.
Simply copy / paste it from your browser’s address bar into the text box on the home page. Click the “Shrink it” button, and we will create a shrunken address for you, complete with a new link to try it out. You can then copy this new link wherever you’d like to use it.
There is no need to come back to ShrinkLink to use a shortened address. Just copy and paste (or type) the shortened link into your browser’s address bar, send it in an email, or post it on a web page somewhere. Anyone who receives a shrunken link will be automatically forwarded to the original address when they click on it.
Yes, please see our Bookmarklet page that describes what this is and how to easily set it up.
Many people will already be familiar with whe whole concept of shrunken URLs, but if you are still not sure, please read the FAQ for more detailed information ..
